Out and About: Gaiser Conservatory

"Out and About" is an occasional feature showcasing some of the unique, quirky and/or totally fabulous aspects of living in the fair city of Bermtopia.

Just like the Three Wise Guys following the star in days of yore, my date and I are perennially drawn to Gaiser Conservatory at Christmas time. Being the conservatory geeks that we are, there are a couple of reasons for this:

A. It is warm.
B. It is beautiful.

It is a labor yuletime love. As we learned last night, two people take three weeks to deck out the conservatory in its holiday finery (I imagine the cacti consume at least 10 days of this prep) so the public can trundle through for about 30  minutes of horticultural holiday magic in December. (Fellow Bermtopians, the magic ends December 22 so get over there STAT!)

It's free (although the Friends of Manito happily collect donations courtesy of several drop boxes scattered throughout the conservatory).

But enough of this chit-chat, here's why you should go if you are in Bermtopia at Christmas time:

We llike the cactus the best.

Gaiser Conservatory is so lovely, so warm and welcoming this time of year, you can almost forget about the crap weather forecast predicting 4 to 6 inches of snow over the next 24 hours.

Almost.
