What winter reveals

I'm trying to sustain my annual Winter Snit-fest, but it's been hard so far (aside from the sub-zero temps in our office). Instead, despite our little snowfall a couple weeks ago, I’ve been doing a climatological Happy Dance.

Shortly after the quasi-dump, it warmed up, rained and made all snow go away.

THEN it stayed warm – the sidewalks dried out, thereby avoiding the ever so unpleasant experience of sidewalk ice skating with Ben.

AND THEN, because it was warm, the winds kicked up and took care of whatever foliage remained on our trees.

AND THEN, it cooled off, a high pressure system parked itself up north somewhere in the vicinity of Canada, fending off anything remotely precipitous. . . as in moisture. As a result, we are looking at the prospect of cold, clear, dry weather for the next 10 days or so.

Praise God.

There’s a little dividend that goes along with this meteorologic miracle. The air. The morning and evening air. What a clear, pristine canvas it awards, allowing us to see life filtered by winter sunrises, sunsets and fog.

Allowing us to see what we want to see -- and don't.
